Brian is a Chartered Mediator and a Qualified Arbitrator who was called to the British Columbia bar in 1981 and has been working in dispute resolution since 1998. He has mediated more than 3000 cases and has been appointed the arbitrator in a number of disputes. He has a particular interest in conflicts involving insurance issues.
As a lawyer, Brian spent 25 years with Greiner Bethell and Company in Burnaby where he practised criminal and civil litigation, focusing on cases involving personal injury, commercial disputes, and building construction. He was the managing partner for 10 years.
Brian's experience as a mediator convinced him that in most cases alternate dispute resolution is the best option for all parties, so he left GBC in 2006 to concentrate on mediation.
Brian is a former member of the Law Society of British Columbia, and is a member of the B.C. Mediation Roster. He is active in the mediation community, and is the past president of the Commercial Mediation Association of British Columbia. He is also a member of the British Columbia Arbitration and Mediation Institute, the Alternate Dispute Resolution Institute of Canada, and he is the former Board Chair of Mediate B.C.
Brian teaches mediation skills. He has worked with paralegals through the Law Courts' Legal Education Centre and coached law students through UBC Law's mediation moot program and the Thompson Rivers University Mediation Moot program.
Brian studied law at UBC, where he also earned a BA in history. His mediation practice is based in North Vancouver, where he grew up and still lives.
In his spare time he sings, plays music, tries to stay fit and coaches high school girls soccer where his mediation skills come in handy.
